Florida 2007

March 29, 2007

Hi there. I am posting this from the Holiday Inn in Lauderdale by the Sea on the Atlantic coast of Florida. We’ve been here now since Monday and will fly back to Michigan tomorrow, Friday March 30. We have spent time lounging on the beach, playing in the surf and meeting up with our friends in Boca Raton. This morning, I took Eric, Isaac and Winston deep sea fishing on a big boat. Winston caught a 30″ Kingfish and I caught one that was 42″ I also caught a little fish that they call a “Trigger fish.” It has two sharp dorsal fins, one shorter than the other that are connected by a link of some sort. When you push the smaller one down, the larger one follows. The Captain said that Trigger fish taste great but I was also told by someone else that they are garbage fish, so I don’t know who to believe. We took the filets to a local fish and chip place on Ocean Blvd near our hotel where they fried them up and served them with chips. They were delicious. They had a texture more like chicken than fish and the flavour was very “unfishy.” It was a touch dry compared to normal fish which contributed to the chicken-like character. Here is the proof…

Check out those teeth! We spent the first few days of our vacation in Orlando where we once again visited Disney and did some shopping in the Disney Village. The fireworks were typically fantastic and the kids had a ball. Here are a few more photos from the vacation…

Yeah, that is Janice setting up a showing on the beach in Ft. lauderdale. She set up a few showings while we were at Disney too. Don’t anyone say they don’t get the best service from Janice! The sandman is Isaac. Arie, Eric and Winston had fun burying him. -GDS
